For the study of the durability of cementitious materials the laboratory has experience in concrete technology, characterization of degradation phenomena and numerical simulations.
The laboratory mCD is equipped with the devices for mixing and casting of concrete and mortar and for the characterization of the properties in the fresh state and hardened (measurement of mechanical properties and durability).

Electrochemical instruments for the evaluation of corrosion conditions of steel reinforcement and for the application of electrochemical methods of protection and prevention are available. Several climatic chambers for the simulation of exposure of different environments and chambers for accelerated carbonation are available.
Chemical analysis and microstructural analysis of cementitious materials are carried out in collaboration with the Chemical Analysis Lab (
LAC) and the Microstructural Analysis Lab (
SAMM).

Finite element numerical simulations are used to study the current and potential distribution for structures subjected to the effects of macrocells, or stray current or electrochemical restoration and prevention techniques.
