The mCD – Concrete Durability research group, founded and directed by prof. Luca Bertolini, deals with the study and characterization of both traditional and innovative cement-based materials and durability of reinforced and prestressed concrete structures. The main areas of research are: – The degradation of reinforced concrete structures and the mechanisms of corrosion of steel reinforcement in concrete, – The durability of reinforced concrete structures, design methods and preventive techniques, – The inspection and diagnosis of the degradation of reinforced concrete structures, – The repair of reinforced concrete structures by means of conventional and electrochemical techniques – The development of new cement-based materials – The study of alternative raw materials and reuse of civil and industrial residues for the production of durable and sustainable concrete structures – The study and characterization of cement materials of cultural heritage and restoration techniques In these areas mCD also provides consultancy support. The laboratory carries out tests for the characterization of concrete and its raw materials and for the evaluation of the resistance to various forms of degradation. The members of the group teach in courses of construction materials and durability of materials in Civil Engineering and Building Engineering schools.
